Robert Nordlander spent over 20 years as a special agent with IRS-Criminal Investigation. He investigated various tax crimes ranging from simple embezzlement to tax evasion using foreign trusts. He is an author, speaker, podcast host, and consultant to attorneys who need forensic accounting and criminal tax expertise. He has a CPA license, CFE certification, and MBA degree. He is the principal member of Nordlander CPA, PLLC, a boutique forensic accounting and tax resolution practice.

Robert Nordlander earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting at Bob Jones University. Afterwards, he was part of a small CPA firm, where he prepared tax returns, conducted audits, and represented his clients with the IRS. It was during that time, he earned his CPA license, and an MBA degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He later applied to be a special agent with IRS-Criminal Investigation. During the two year hiring process, he went back to Bob Jones University to teach various accounting and tax courses.

After six months of training at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, his first post of duty was in Birmingham, Alabama, where he investigated tax evasion, identity theft, and false tax returns. Shortly after 9/11, he was temporarily assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force to investigate possible terrorism financing. He later transferred to Greensboro, North Carolina, where he finished the rest of his special agent career.

Robert Nordlander

Robert Nordlander is a speaker, podcast host, CPA, forensic accountant, and author of two Amazon #1 Bestsellers: Criminal Tax Secrets: What Every Defense Attorney Should Know and Unpaid Payroll Taxes: A Time Bomb You Can Defuse.  He spent over 20 years as a special agent with IRS-Criminal Investigation chasing tax evaders and money launderers around the globe.

During his IRS-CI career, he was given various assignments, such as working with the Cyber Crime Unit in Washington, DC, Cyber Crime Coordinator of the Charlotte Field Office, Use of Force Coordinator, and lead investigator on a bank SAR-Review Team. Using his teaching background, Nordlander also developed and taught continuing education courses for IRS-CI. He also taught anti-money laundering and tax courses overseas in conjunction with the Department of State and IRS-Criminal Investigation. He was the recipient of various awards from IRS-CI, the State of North Carolina, and US Attorney’s Offices.

In the later stages of his successful special agent career, he started the Fraud Fighter Podcast, which focuses on the forensic accounting industry. Shortly after retirement, he continued the podcast and started Nordlander CPA, PLLC. Following some of his podcast guests’ advice, he earned the CFE credential.

He continues to teach forensic accounting and tax resolution subjects. Attorney and CPA associations frequently request his presentations on cryptocurrency and criminal tax matters. Some subjects are listed on his speaking page. He recently started a second podcast: Criminal Tax Files. This podcast discusses federal criminal tax matters.

To keep a life balance, he finished (albeit slow) various long distance races: a marathon, multiple half-marathons, and triathlons. He is married and has one daughter. He is a fan of great BBQ, the FIRE movement, and anything about J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis.
